So, have you tried it yet? We’re assuming someone has, since Fenty Beauty’s newest release, Body Lava Body Luminizer, was sold out in both shades at our local Sephoras. (Y’all greedy.) But since sundress season won’t wait (whenever it finally arrives), we had to turn to the ever reliable—and reliably entertaining—Jackie Aina to give us all the heat on this hot new product.

With her already glowing skin and favorite-homegirl delivery, Aina tries on both the bronzy Brown Sugar ($59; currently sold out online) and the lighter Who Needs Clothes? ($59) using the new Face & Body Kabuki Brush 160 ($34; also sold out—curses!). Bonus round? The decadent Fairy Bomb Glittering Pom Pom ($42).

Despite reading numerous reviews that the product is patchy and sticky and transfers onto clothing, Aina finds the sweet spot, discovering that when it comes to Body Lava, just a little dab’ll do ya—the key is to buff it out, not layer it up. “One pump is enough!” she warns.

Of course, this also makes the $59 price tag for a 3-ounce bottle (as compared with the 1.08 ounces of the $34 Pro Filtr Foundation) a bit easier to swallow—just think cost per wear. She also finds that spreading it thin cures that pesky transfer issue, which is great, because ain’t nobody got time for that.

As for the colors? Aina surprised even herself by loving the higher-impact Who Needs Clothes? in addition to the more subtle glow of Brown Sugar. No ash and no ice, she attested. In fact, she loved it so much, she eventually even took the Body Lava to her face, giving a low-key wet look to her cheekbones.

Moving on to the Fairy Bomb, Aina seemed more enchanted with the product’s packaging than with the “superfine 3-D shimmer” in rose-gold with a vanilla-coconut scent (notably, she couldn’t initially detect a scent on any of these products). That said, she definitely considered the Fairy Bomb a viable alternative to the potential mess of the luminizer, especially as festival season and temps heat up.

The consensus? Don’t always believe the hype of reviews. Get thee to a Sephora, try these products (sparingly) for yourself and get chu some Body Lava—and if your budget allows, treat yo’ self to a Fairy Bomb!
