Well, here’s a reason to be happy: Just in time to coincide with her Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice best supporting actress nominations for the film Mudbound—as well as a Golden Globe nod for best original song for “Mighty River”—the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced that Grammy Award-winning artist Mary J. Blige will receive her own star on the Walk of Fame on Jan. 11 in Los Angeles, Variety reports. The honor will be presented in part by longtime producer and friend Sean “Diddy” Combs.
It’s a triumphant cap on a difficult couple of years for the singer and actress, who in 2016 filed for divorce from her husband and former manager, Kendu Isaacs. While that drama is unfortunately still playing out, it’s exciting to see one of our favorite songbirds getting the respect and recognition she’s due from the entertainment industry. We hope it’s one of many wins to come as she steps into awards season.
Says Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies: “Mary J. Blige is one of the most popular singers of our generation. Fans will be thrilled to see her star on the boulevard as her career milestones are celebrated on this very famous sidewalk.”
Mary’s is a voice we truly can’t be without. If you find yourself on Hollywood Boulevard, you can see her star shining brightly at 6201 Hollywood Blvd., in front of the Eastown apartments.
